One of the most important elements of any culture is its food. In many countries the kitchen is the center of family and society. A culture’s cuisine is also one of the elements of a people that is most easily transported and adapted as people of different cultures migrate. One of the most popular and influential cuisines is Pan-Asian cuisine. It is diverse, healthy, and the ingredients are easy to find or adapt.

Southwestern cuisine includes the foods of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Burma. The main meat source of this diet is lamb and mutton, and it is characterized by spices such as clove and curry. Other staples are rice, wheat, and barley.
Northeastern cuisine derives mostly from the cuisine of China, Japan, and Korea. This is probably the best known Asian cuisine in the United States, and is characterized by the use of vegetables, soy sauce, and rice. Meat is a secondary consideration; the use of fish and seafood is more common.
Southeastern cuisine comes mostly from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It is characterized the use of delicate sauces made form citrus juices and herbs such as basil and lemon grass.
